Drew
Valla was born on July 23rd 1948 in Torrington, Ct. He wandered the
concrete dunes of the industrial city until his High School graduation
in 1966. Following graduation, Drew went off to study at Southern
Connecticut State University in New Haven, Ct. At Southern, he played
intramural sports, founded a fraternal organization, and took part in
anti-war rallies. In 1970, Drew graduated from SCSU with a BS in
History and General Science.
Soon after graduation, Drew tied the knot with his college sweetheart,
Kathleen. The couple made their first home in New Haven as Drew
enrolled in a Master’s program at SCSU for Education Research and
Statistics. After his graduation in 1971 Drew moved to Rhode Island,
where he and his wife would work at a school for emotionally disturbed
adolescents. They worked here for the next 7 years until Drew decided a
career change was in order. He went back to school in 1980 and earned a
Master’s of Science Degree in Plant and Soil Science from the
University of Rhode Island.
In
1982, following the birth of his first child, Lauren, Drew and his
family packed their belongings and headed to the quiet woodlands of
Woodbury, Ct. In Woodbury, Drew purchased a 7 acre plot of land to
build his home and Plant Nursery. In 1983 “Deepwood Nursery” was
officially open for business. A year later, another addition to the
family arrived in the form of a son, Kieran. Tests showed he was a
genius.
Drew
continued to manage “Deepwood Nursery” for the next 14 years.
Presently, Drew lives in Woodbury, coaches girls basketball and writes.
In his spare time he enjoys reading, films, history and gardening. He
is an animal lover and an outdoors junkie. Drew finds speaking at book
clubs a stimulating and rewarding learning experience. He tries to
write from personal experience and deal with social issues within the
context of a story.
